Recollections from the month that already feels like a million years ago…

A year drew to a close that, by most accounts, has been tough all around. Economic conditions, and the difficulty to come by of funding, has resulted in a year that has been quieter than most would hope on the business and growth front.

We’ve seen it in recruitment – and also when speaking to others across the sector plying their trades in consultancy, striving to grow their start-ups and pretty much any area you can think of.

We also speak to other recruiters, in other sectors, who seem to be experiencing exactly the same issues. This has definitely provided a positive to hold on to – it’s not that we are working in a sector that is failing us (yes, agritech has it’s own unique challenges, but arguably so does every other domain), it’s been tough across the board and we are all in it together.

This also provides hope that things will collectively improve. Looking at things more optimistically, we at AgRecruit have definitely experienced a very tangible upturn in activity levels in the latter quarter of the year – clients, both old and new, seem to be recruiting and the roles are flying through the door. A flash in the pan or a genuine upturn in the market? Time will tell.

Vacancies wise, we’ve been particularly busy working with clients in the Ag-Biotech realm on roles in both the US and UK. From Plant Transformation specialists to Synthetic Chemists, the nature of roles landing on our desks have been typically varied.

Throw into the mix active opportunities in Agri-Food Sustainability and tech (software, devops), and our small team has been kept very busy in the lead up to Christmas, and spilling over into the New Year.

Long may this continue, with further potential roles on the horizon in areas such as Business Development and Marketing… watch this space!
