Research Unit Manager

• Leadership position with high autonomy and influence, for a small but successful research organisation.

KEY SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• A demonstrable track record in science & research (this could be from working in academic, research or industry environments).
• A general grounding a in a scientific or engineering discipline, and aptitude for orchestrating and reporting of research work.
• Commercial nous, perhaps with experience in developing new business and income generation (from commercial contract work, or grant & fund raising).
• Leadership experience, and an ability to manage people, resources and research projects.
• Any exposure to Agricultural or Environmental related projects would be a bonus - but is by no means a requirement.

ROLE SUMMARY:

A small yet successful research organisation, exceptionally well known in their niche field (but not really outside of this!), is seeking a Unit Manager to play a key role in their future growth and success.

Their focus is on a specific area of Environmental related research, in which they've successfully built relationships with and delivered research projects for clients ranging from international corporations to Government bodies.

Having previously relied on reputation and existing networks to drive incoming projects and income, expansion and future proofing the business is now a priority. This will include becoming more outward facing and commercially savvy when it comes to promoting the business & generating further projects and funding.

The Unit Manager will play a lead role in this, therefore we are seeking somebody who can combine a science & research background with commercial acumen and leadership skills. Whilst this company's focus is mostly - but not exclusively - related to Environmental & Agricultural matters, it is not required for the Unit Manager to have specific expertise in this. What's more important is a general aptitude for research and picking up technical concepts, therefore we encourage applicants from a variety of scientific / engineering related backgrounds.
