  • Demonstrable background in Agronomical, Plant and/or Agricultural Sciences (or a related discipline).
  • Experience setting up and running controlled environments for produce growing.
  • Knowledge of LED, irrigation and HVAC systems.
  • Exposure to one or or more of our focus crop groups - leafy greens, herbs, tomatoes, strawberries
  • Able to thrive in a start-up environment, getting involved in something from the ground upwards.

ROLE & COMPANY OVERVIEW:

We need to shift the way that we assess fresh produce and food quality in order to deliver a sustainable food system - and prioritise nutrition and taste, over uniformity in shape and size. The Controlled Environment Agriculture and Vertical Farming sectors are helping us to do this; but problems persist around the feasibility and affordability of technologies and solutions in that domain.

This AgriTech company, in rapid growth mode and recent recipients of significant financial backing, are looking to tackle these problems by devising and developing sophisticated and accurate technology solutions that will aid Farmer and Grower decision making - with a specific focus on CEA environments. Their mission, by developing everything in house, is to deliver software, data and AI solutions that are cost-efficient, easy to use, and require minimal hardware and machinery.

Effective and leading-edge research is central to what they do, hence they have just moved into a brand new growing facility where they can create Controlled Agriculture and Vertical Farming environments in which to run technology and crop growth trials and research.

Starting with what essentially will be an empty space, an experienced Agronomist is required to spearhead the process of setting up and running Controlled Environment and Indoor Farming environments for conducting produce growth research and trials.

You will need to be an experienced individual in the Agricultural and Plant Sciences domain, with proven experience of setting up trial and research environments related to produce growing. Specific experience setting up CEA or Vertical Farming environments would be a bonus.

As a key hire within a small, albeit fast growing, team, you will need to be comfortable operating in a position of high responsibility in start-up environment - where ambiguity and unpredictability can be common place.
